Thanks to Nick Humphreys, BC Regional Council member for forwarding us an update on the Make Poverty History fund, and an update on one of the projects in BC funded by the Social Justice Fund.

An email from Janine Bandcroft, Co-ordinator, Victoria Street Newz

In early December we received a letter of support, and a cheque, from PSAC’s ‘Make Poverty History’ Project. We’re absolutely thrilled!

The Victoria Street Newz (download the current issue pdf document ) is almost two years old. It’s the first and only project of the Bread and Roses Collective. We receive a lot of favourable comments about the quality of our work, from people representing all sectors of society, and we’re very proud to publish information about the work that PSAC does, ‘making a world of difference.’

Thanks so much for your support.

And an email from Joe Gunn, Campaign Coordinator, Make Poverty History

Make Poverty History supporters like you were successful in raising poverty issues with candidates in a campaign that did not linger on such themes. Some candidates told us that they received ten times as much mail on MPH than on any other topic! Others placed a link to our website on their campaign websites. In all, over 1,000 candidates supported the Make Poverty History goals. Of these, 178 Make Poverty History supporters were elected. What this means is, in spite of the fact that Canadians elected a minority government, we have a majority of Members of Parliament who have already stated their support. Visit the MPH website to read more about MP’s that have pledged to Make Poverty History. The next step is to ensure that they act concretely to Make Poverty History!

Please continue to keep an eye on our website for updates and information, and feel free to contact me at any time. Thanks for helping to Make Poverty History!
