The meeting was called to order at 5:35 p.m. with Susan Yaciw in the chair.
Minutes: Minutes from October 25, 2005 were accepted as distributed. m/s/c
Treasurer’s Report: The report was presented by D-L. McKenzie (see attached). m/s/c
Dues for 2006 ($1 per Local member located in the Okanagan) are now due and can be sent to Darrell-Lee McKenzie.
Update from Denis Ringuette, Regional Council Okanagan / Kootenay: Report was presented which included: A planning session was held in Nelson on November 26th and unfortunately at this time not enough interest was garnered to establish an Area Council; Education schedule; The next Regional Council Meeting is March 31st to April 3rd and leadership training will be provided to PSAC Triennial Convention delegates at this time.
Education: There are several new members in AGR Local 20027, and a new UTE Local 20003 established in Kelowna creating a more urgent need for Local Officers Training. S. Yaciw also reported that she is required to set-up a Women at Work course as part of training that she is completing.
Action: S. Yaciw to determine needs and contact Regina Brennan regarding scheduling.
Participation of Retired Members: There was a discussion in regards to retired members participating in Area Council and Women’s Committee.
Action: S. Yaciw to send a letter to P. Ducharme to seek clarification on the issue.
Member Appreciation Event: Event will be held in Kelowna in September. Discussion and planning were tabled until the next meeting.
PSAC Triennial Convention: Sending an alternate delegate was discussed, and past subsidies were reviewed. A subsidy of $300 will be provided to J. Leenhouts to attend convention as the alternate Okanagan Area Council delegate. m/s/c
Bylaws: D-L. McKenzie reported that the Okanagan Area Council bylaws had been sent to the REVP’s office for review to determine if they are consistent with PSAC bylaws.
Political Action: The upcoming election of Alternate REVP for BC was discussed. Delegates to the BC Regional Convention will be receiving mail-in ballots soon.
The election of a new PSAC President at Triennial Convention was discussed.
D-L. McKenzie discussed the survey of bargaining team members after the last round of negotiations.
Federal Election: The need to meet with local MP’s in order to make them aware of the concerns of PSAC members in their ridings was discussed.
Action: All members to go back to their Locals and identify key issues to be addressed with MP’s.
Action: L. Woods and J. Leenhouts to meet with MP to discuss critical issue of impending layoff of National Component staff in the region.
