clc-ctc.jpgOTTAWA – “With two-thirds of mothers with children under the age of three working outside the home to support their families; with three quarters of mothers with children between three and five working outside the home and with more than half of all Canadian children in some form of child care, governments across the country, federal and provincial, have a duty to make sure our children enjoy high-quality and safe child care,” says Ken Georgetti, president of the Canadian Labour Congress.

The Canadian Labour Congress highlights this point with advertisements on urban transit buses across the country for the next few weeks. The ads, with the slogan “Child Care. Kids Are Worth It,” clearly advocate for the creation of new, affordable, high-quality and safe child care spac es across the country; a goal the current federal government wants to cancel with its planned roll back of the agreements signed with the provinces last year. Good child care creates learning environments that provide children with a great and lasting first start.

“As Canadian working women and men across the country get ready to celebrate International Workers’ Day on May 1st, this simple message about our children is a compelling reminder of all the reasons workers and their unions mobilize and struggle for equality and quality of life.”

The Canadian Labour Congress, the national voice of the labour movement, represents 3 million Canadian workers. The CLC brings together Canada’s national and international unions along with the provincial and territorial federations of labour and 135 district labour councils. Web site: www.canadianlabour.ca
