Youth updates

To: all PSAC-BC self-identified youth members

At the PSAC Triennial Convention (May 1 - 5, 2006) the delegates passed a policy on student employment that includes a PSAC action plan to ensure that “Student Employment Programs provide students with opportunities and income without being exploited and without undermining the employment security of PSAC members”. This is an important outcome from the convention and I hope you take the time to review it at the national website.

Also, Earl Peache a youth-ally recently wrote a new verse to include youth in the ever-popular “Solidarity Forever” song. If you are going to events where this will be sung see if you can get this verse added!

Young workers of the Union, they are showing us the way,
It is they who hold the vision which will save the world one day,
They’re fighting for the planet; they demand to have a say,
Youth make the Union strong!

Finally, Jamey Mills, your PSAC-BC Regional Council Youth Representative, and his alternate Amy Painter will be in the Vancouver Regional office from May 23 - June 3 working on revitalizing the Youth Caucus. If you have ideas on upcoming projects, events, etc. that the Youth Caucus can take on, let them know by contacting the office starting next week!

In Solidarity, Monica Urrutia, Regional Representative
