Minutes of the Vancouver Regional Women’s Committee May 25, 2006

Agenda:

1.Decision on financial support for going to the CLC Women’s Conference

Regina chaired this meeting as it was an “emergency” meeting to discuss face to face who could go to the CLC Women’s Committee from the Regional Woman’s Committee and how much we could commit to spending.  There were two requests for funding and we were unable to come to a satisfactory arrangement via email, so this meeting was called and we only had the one agenda item.

One of the requests was withdrawn so only Deanna’s request remained to be dealt with.  Deanna was looking for the registration and the accommodation expenses to be covered, estimated at $500.00 for accommodation and $250.00 for registration

We opened our account with: $1304.49
We received an advance from Patty of: $500.00
We paid for Angela to go to the PSAC Convention: $500.00
We paid for the World Peace Forum fundraiser: $225.00
We owe for the VDLC International Women’s Day dinner: $240.00
Balance in the account should be: $839.49
petty cash on hand of: $234.98

for a grand total of: $1074.47

Note – this financial report was not submitted nor approved by Deanna, so there may be some slight discrepancies.

We reviewed our finances and agreed that we had sufficient funds to help out one participant to a maximum of $500.00.

M/S/C Alethea/Angela that we spend up to $500.00 to help support getting Deanna to the CLC Women’s Conference in June.

We then reviewed our budget submission and amended it as follows:

Proposed Budget for the Vancouver Regional PSAC Women’s Committee for 2006

Regional Allocation: $1,000.00

Expenses:
Conferences, PSAC Convention and/or subsidies: $1,000.00
Donations: $200.00
Meeting expenses: $300.00
Total: $1500.00

The shortfall of $500.00 will be made up from money saved in previous years or from fundraising.

We then had a discussion about your upcoming meeting schedule and plans, but none of us had a copy of the previous minutes, so here is an excerpt from the last minutes to remind all of us what we have planned for the Fall:
Next meeting dates:

June 15.  We will try to connect with the Human Rights Committee or the Multi Union Pride Committee to see what we can do to help them prepare for the parade.  We will have a report from Angela on her participation at the PSAC Convention.  Committee members will come prepared to report specifically on how they can help push for elder rights.

September 13.  We may try to have a speaker from the Filipino Women’s Center at this meeting.  We also need to plan for the October meeting.

October 25.  Halloween theme again?  Prepare for December 6th activities.

Campaigns we might be interested in taking action on are working for elder rights and working on the issue of violence.
