Join Multi-union Pride on Sunday
Published by Patrick August 3rd, 2006 in Lower Mainland, Pride Tags: Pride, pride-parade, Regional Council, vancouver.Vancouver Multi-union Pride evolved from the BC PSAC LGBT Support Group a number of years ago. Sister Diana Smith (National Component) successfully promoted the concept of a Multi-union Pride Committee that would represent the face of labour in the Vancouver Pride Society Parade and Festival.
We have grown in leaps and bounds over the years. We continue to be the largest single group in the Vancouver Pride Parade. We have won a trophy for “Best Political/Union Float” and are extremely well received by thunderous applause as we march past spectators along the parade route.
We are joined every year by our labour leadership such as the BC PSAC REVP, the Presidents of the BC Federation of Labour, BC Government Employees Union, Hospital Employees Union, BC Nurses Union and the Vancouver Distict Labour Council.
Every year we seize the opportunity to meet and mingle and march with our political allies such as Libbie Davies, Svend Robinson, Bill Siksay and Jack Layton. One year we were joined by Equal Marriage. We have become the “place to be”!
The theme for the Vancouver Pride Parade this year is Love and Joy! Multi-union Pride will be presenting and promoting “Peace and Love” as our contribution. World and Union Peace…
Please join us if you are planning to attend the parade. It’s lovely in BC in August! The first Sunday in August in Vancouver’s West end. That’s the day we march in Pride with our sisters and brothers in the labour movement. We are visible! We are everywhere! We would love to see you - mingle and meet and march with you!
