  • Terry opened the meeting at 5:30 PM
  • Kay spoke on Departmental budget cuts, women’s issues, anti Scab Legislation and lobbying MP’s. The Ekati Mine situation. She felt if the anti-scab legislation had been passed prior to the mine strike, the Ekati Mine strike would have been different as Ekati had flown in scabs. If there are any SDLAC members who want to lobby MP’s on these issues it would be great. Discussion ensued on various possible groups to visit several MP’s. One of the MP’s to visit was Sukh Dhaliwal. Kay also mentioned the TB Bargaining Conference.
  • Previous minutes – Carol/Sigrid, moved/seconded – carried
  • Agenda – Johann/Dale, moved/seconded - carried
  • Financial report – Sharon mentioned that she had included District Labour Council PSAC grant and expense of $300 as she was not sure of this. It was suggested that this be removed as Area Council’s cannot affiliate. It was further discussed that some of the small locals ask about affiliating due to the cost. Sharon/Donna, moved/seconded to accept the financial report as presented with the $300 deleted as discussed. Carried.
  • Regina reported on coming courses. She noted that it’s hard to fill some courses. It was suggested that although CRA members cannot be on the TB bargaining team its still a good thing to take the TB training to educated members. Sigrid/Terry P, moved/seconded that the Area Council fund up to 4 members for $25 registration to the up coming Union School. Carried. (The first four members to apply to Terry R would have their registrations paid.) Carol mentioned that on October 16th from noon til 2 PM at the PSAC RO Boardroom there will be teleconference playback of the Lancaster Conference on Disabilities. Everyone is welcome to sit in and listen. People who would like to attend should RSVP Monica U. If you have any ideas for courses let one of the PSAC contacts know.
  • Sigrid/Sharon moved/seconded that we pay the $79.18 cost for the meeting. Carried. Sharon/Dale, moved/seconded that we pay $113.76 for the food expenses. Carried.
  • It was decided that the next meeting would be November 7th at the same place.
  • Elections:
  • Chair: Johann/Sharon, moved/seconded to nominated Terry Ruyter – Terry R. was acclaimed;
  • Co-chair: Sharon/Terry R., moved/seconded to nominated Sigrid; Johann/Sharon moved/seconded to nominate Carol P. – Declined. Sigrid acclaimed.
  • Secretary: Terry R/Sharon moved/seconded to nominate Johann; Sigrid/Terry B seconded nominated Jeremy – declined. Johann acclaimed.
  • Treasurer: Terry R/Donna moved/seconded to nominate Sharon; Sigrid/Terry B nominated Jeremy - declined. Sharon acclaimed.
  • Education Coordinator: Sigrid/Terry R moved/seconded to nominate Kim F - declined. Sharon/Dale moved/seconded to nominate Jeremy. Johann/Sharon moved/seconded to nominate Dale - delcined. Jeremy acclaimed. It was noted that Kim F will assist Jeremy.
  • Regina swore in the new members of the executive.
  • Round table: Sigrid provided a report on the PSAC Convention which she had attended as the Area Council delegate. Her report will be emailed out to all. Kim and Carol thanked the Area Council for providing some funding for their court case against the Surrey School Board. Kim stated that they had won the Human Rights case. Regina mentioned that their stand was brave and thanked them for doing this.
  • Johann/Terry R., moved/seconded that the meeting be adjourned. Carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:28 PM.
