1. A letter had been sent to the previous treasurer to return all books. At this time there has still been no response from her. It was decided to start over with the books rather than pursuing this any further. We will be ordering new cheques and changing signing authority at the bank today. It was decided to stay with TD/Canada Trust where our accounts were as the service charges at other financial institutions were just as high or worse. We do not have a list of which locals had previously paid their dues, but will verify bank statements to try to determine what has happened in the past. Our current balance is $1098.13.

2. Dues for this year are to be paid by the end of January at the cost of $1.00 per member for each local.

3. Training is scheduled for all area councils in Vancouver on February 20-22. Three members from each area council may attend. Training includes the role of the area council, the basis of operation, activities to engage in, and an action plan will be drawn up to see what assistance each area council can provide for the next Federal election. J. Johns, A.M. McCully and E. Martin were chosen to attend the training. We will meet with the other members of the executive on our return to provide them an overview of the training.

4. Information on the recent Health and Safety convention was provided by M. Dureen and E. Martin. The highlights to be brought to the members over the next year include:

  • Violence in the Workplace is the number one issue
  • Training
  • Keeping up the BRUSH committee
  • Work environment
  • On our March agenda, we need to build on the BRUSH agenda.
  • Smoking enforcement needs to start with our staff at the insitutions.

5. J. Johns provided a report on the Labour Council. She advised us to check the website frequently to stay on top of issues. We currently have 3 delegates and 3 alternates attending the Fraser Valley Canada Labour Council meetings. J. Johns was nominated and won a role on the executive. Meetings are held every third Wednesday at 1900 hours at the Teacher’s Hall in Abbotsford.

The next Fraser Valley Area Council meeting will be held on Thursday, March 15 at the Crossroads Restaurant. More information will follow.
