Introductions were made of all members in attendance.
Agenda reviewed.

Motion to accept agenda-Chuck, seconded-Pat—carried.
Minutes of previous executive meeting were reviewed.

Minutes of previous general meeting were reviewed.

Motion to accept minutes-Melvin; seconded Chuck—carried.

Note: March 15^th meeting rescheduled to March 29^th.
Area Council Retreat – Report by Anne Marie

-attended by Anne Marie, Jayne, and Edi

-highlights: value of Area Council; networking and communication; message that we vote our employer therefore get politically active; strategies to become politically active

-all felt this was worthwhile and were ready to strategize for local participation
Executive Training Report – Jayne Johns

-reviewed the Constitution, by-laws, minutes, and financial guidelines

-discussed each executive member’s role and responsibilities

-discussion about education schedule for the year

Conclusion of the meeting: more responsibility shared by executive members; focus on local issues that affect members directly; combine our political action in coordination with Labour Council; provide meaningful education opportunities for members; have guests to provide information on a wide range of topics; social atmosphere for networking and building relationships with other union members.

March 10^th was a planning meeting with executive; divided into three committees-Education, Political Action and Organizing
Did some strategic planning—handout given to each member to review

Bargaining Team Report – Melvin – member of SV group

Bargaining team members were picked in January 2007.

Demands have been reviewed

April 10^th bargaining team to meet and review

April 27^th demands to the employer

Essential services to be determined-replaces designations
Megan –member of PA group – unable to attend tonight’s meeting

Will make herself available later on –possible local meetings and Area Council meeting
Bargaining teams will meet for 4 days in May and 2 days in June before the summer break.

June 2^nd – TUB held at the Ramada in Abbotsford

-possible JLP presentation following the training – Jayne to action
September 2007 tentative Friday evening and Saturday courses on

Lobbying; Union Advocacy; Staffing—final details will be on website soon.
Facing Management is not offered in the Fraser Valley at this time; email James that there is a need for the course. Note there is a course in Vancouver in June 07.
Next Area Council meeting is June 2^nd—social gathering following the training.
