Too early to tell what type of a mandate the employer holds. SC issues will be dealt with through a sub-committee. A joint meeting of all tables took place following the recent negotiation meetings. The bargaining proposals for all TB groups have been posted on the PSAC website. A strategy committee has been struck which includes one representative from each of the Tables. Randy fielded a number of questions from the members present.
Political Action: Brother Humphreys provided updated information on the letter campaign in which all Area Councils (AC) in BC are participating. The template letter being used by all Area Councils in BC was put together by Brother Humphreys with assistance from Sister Little. A Regional Political Action Committee has been struck which consists of one person from each of the AC’s in BC. Brother Humphreys sits on this committee from our AC. Some of the actions taken on by the committee relate to lobbying, organizing demonstrations, endorse candidates who are labour friendly. The RPAC also hold regular conference calls. Summer activities consist of finding out who the MP’s and perspective MP’s are in each riding; obtain their summer itineraries; attend events and distribute our literature.Victoria Labour Council: Cindy and Nick provided an update as to the state of the Victoria Labour Council. They are in some turmoil mainly as a result of a divided Executive. The CLC are also conducting an audit of their affairs. What may be of benefit to the future of the VLC is if the BCGEU returns to the fold. They had left the VLC 4-5 years ago.Labour Day Picnic: The PSAC will have a booth at this year’s Labour Day Picnic. While no information has been received at this time it is expected that the picnic will be held at the same location as last year.
