clc logoAt the regular monthly meeting of the Vancouver and District Labour Council held on Tuesday, October 21, delegates endorsed their preferred candidates for municipal offices in the City of Vancouver, City and District of North Vancouver, and the City of Richmond.

In addition delegates endorsed one candidate for Metro Vancouver Director in Electoral District A (UBC) who sits on the GVRD.

“We have endorsed a very strong list of progressive candidates for mayors, city councils, school trustees and Parks Board (pdf link),” said Bill Saunders, President of the Council.

Topping the list was a solid endorsement for the COPE - Vision - Green slate in the City of Vancouver, headed by Gregor Robertson who is running for mayor.

On the north shore, the VDLC endorsed incumbent Mayor Darrell Mussatto in the City of North Vancouver and incumbent Mayor Richard Walton in the District of North Vancouver.

“Our endorsed list includes candidates from municipal parties such as COPE, VISION Vancouver, the Greens, the Richmond Citizens Association and the Richmond Independent Team of Electors as well as numerous independent candidates,” added Saunders.

The Vancouver and District Labour Council will produce poll cards for each municipality listing their endorsed candidates. These poll cards will be circulated to union households in each electoral district.

The Vancouver and District Labour Council consists of 114 affiliated local unions representing 69,000 unionized workers in Vancouver, North Vancouver and Richmond.
