Along with a team of other students across the country, the successful candidate will work to advance the goals of the PSAC Student Mobilization Project, primarily by outreach to students employed by the federal government, and will also work in support of summer initiatives related to PSAC’s Think Public campaign. Summer Student Organizer
Under the supervision of PSAC’s Regional Coordinators, summer student organizers will:
- Summer Student Organizers will have student employees employed at Parks Canada, CSBA and for the Federal Government sign a card which will be used as an affirmation that they wish to be given the right to join a union.
- Summer Student Organizers will have student employees, casual employees and general public sign petitions and the like in support of the PSAC’s court challenge to win the right for students to unionize.
- Summer Students Organizers will assist in the development, production and distribution of materials to support our court challenge
- Help with a variety of activities and work related to the PSAC’s Think Public campaign aimed at building broad public support for quality public services and opposing privatization and/or other duties related to PSAC’s summer work as directed by the PSAC Regional Coordinators.
Skills and Qualities:
- Experience as a student and/or trade union organizer or activist.
- A high level of organizational and interpersonal skills;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Previous experience as a federal government student employee would be an asset;
- Skills in using office software, net based communications tools;
- Availability to travel.
- Bilingual in regions where required
Timeframe: The start and end dates of the job are flexible with the earliest start date possible, and an end date by the end of August. Deadline for applications: July 1st
Remuneration: $16.50/hr. This position will be unionized under the Canadian Union of Labour Employees.
