psac logoA union is a group of workers who join together to achieve better wages, better benefits, respect on the job, and a stronger voice in workplace decisions. With the help of a union, workers negotiate a contract with their employer to ensure these things.

Without a union, employers have 100% control over its employees and complete authority to make all decisions. Unions give employees some of this control to make their workplace better. A union’s major goal is to give workers a voice on the job for respect, safety, security, better pay and benefits, and other improvements to working conditions.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada can help you achieve these things.

Do you feel …

  • secure about your job and your future at work?
  • your boss favours some employees over others?
  • you aren’t being paid fairly for the work you do?
  • you are doing work you weren’t hired to do?

And that’s where we can help.

The PSAC, a respected Canadian Union.

We’re the Public Service Alliance of Canada, one of the country’s larges and most respected unions. Working together, we can give you a strong voice - on the job and at the bargaining table.

The PSAC represents over 180,000 workers from coast to coast to coast. Our diverse membership includes clerks and teachers … tradespeople and technicians … administrators and enforcement officers … engineers and accountants … secretaries and sailors … firefighters and food inspectors … nurses and counsellors … teaching assistants and drivers.

We understand the work you do. And we know how to get results!

Local representation, national expertise.

Job security. Wage protection. Respect on the job. These are the workplace issues of the 2000s. The PSAC has led the way on these and other key concerns, such as health and safety, pay equity, paid maternity leave, home and teleworking, equal access for workers with disabilities, and comprehensive medical and dental plans.

The PSAC offers the best of both worlds - local servicing backed by the best professional and technical services. Our network of 23 regional servicing offices ensures you’re never far from advice, guidance and representation.

Our size allows us to provide specialists other unions can only dream of: professional negotiators and researchers, classification and equal pay specialists, health and safety experts and specially-trained educators.

We also defend our members’ rights on many fronts: in the workplace, at the bargaining table; before labour tribunals. When necessary we will fight all the way to the Supreme Court.

A membership-driven democratic union.

The PSAC belongs to its members. Our democratic structure gives each member a say in how their union is run. Members elect their own local executive, decide bargaining priorities, sit on negotiating teams and vote to accept or reject collective agreements.

The PSAC strongly believes in effective, two-way communication. Each member is mailed our bi-weekly Union Update newsletter and special bulletins and fact-sheets are often sent to the workplace.

It’s your future. Its’s your move.

You have the right to join a union. That’s the law. Together, we can work for the better future you deserve.
