... and defend quality public services

The public advantage defined

There are many differences between quality public services and services provided by the private sector. The most significant difference is that public services are funded collectively by taxpayers and delivered by public sector workers, ensuring universal access, democratic accountability and the achievement of social objectives such as the elimination of poverty.

The public advantage at work

But the differences don't stop there. Public funding ensures services are responsive to the needs of communities and broad enough to provide the infrastructure for a healthy economy. Quality public services are responsive to the needs of all, including equity-seeking groups, and respectful of Charter rights.

No alternative to the public advantage

Two decades of privatization have taken their toll on quality public services. They've also taught us that none of the alternatives to publicly-funded, publicly-delivered services meet our needs and the needs of our communities.

Building resistance

Defending and promoting quality public services is a job for all of us. The knowledge and expertise of PSAC members puts our union in a position to play a leadership role. Our resistance to the efforts of governments and private sector to dismantle quality public services is gaining momentum, mobilizing members in the fight.
